Alum Creek State Park
We are open for the 2021 season starting on Sunday, 6/66/2021 at Hoover Reservoir for paddleboard lessons, rentals, and yoga. Register for sessions on our online calendar at Aloha SUP.
We do have any sessions scheduled at Alum Creek for 2021. We are only offering sessions at Ho0ver Resterville in Westerville, Ohio in the 2021 Season.
Alum Creek State Park is an ideal location for paddle boarding in Columbus, Ohio.
SUP Columbus conducts our paddle board classes from the Howard Road Boat Launch at the north end of Alum Creek State Park. Only 30 minutes north of downtown Columbus, the Howard Road Boat Launch area of Alum Creek State Park is a perfect spot for paddle boarding in Central Ohio.
The north end of Alum Creek State Park is the perfect location for Paddle Board Lessons offered by the SUP Columbus experienced instructors. The beginner can feel comfortable learning the fundaments of paddle boarding while enjoying themselves on the large areas of unobstructed open water.
The area off the Howard Road Boat Launch is a no wake zone that offers large areas of paddle boarding uninterrupted by outside influences. Sparsely populated by fishermen, canoers, and kayakers the north end of Alum Creek State Park offers a serene setting for paddle boarders to feel the calm of the water while nurturing the soul.
With many quiet coves to explore make this area of Alum Creek State Park makes it the best location in Central Ohio to practice SUP Yoga. SUP Yoga is gaining in popularity, especially during the summer months, allowing yogis and yoginis to move their practice outdoors.
Shale cliffs and abundant nature let paddler boarders escape the stress of the daily grind and connect with nature. There is nothing like a paddle board session to calm the mind and recharge the batteries.
The 2.5 mile stretch north from the Howard Road Boat Launch offers the perfect location for paddle board fitness and SUP Race Training.
The Osprey Nesting Platform at the far north end of Alum Creek makes for the perfect destination for a paddle board excursion. A hidden gem tucked away only seen by few, the paddle board provides an idea vista point.
Alum Creek Valley was once home to the Adena culture and then later the Delaware Indian tribe. The Sycamore Trail of the Underground Railroad ran right along Alum Creek and Africa Road actually gets its name from a group of 30 slaves freed from North Carolina that settled in the area.
Alum Creek Reservoir is a 3,300 acre lake managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR).
In addition to paddle boarding, there are many things to do at Alum Creek State Park. Some of these include boating, disc golf, fishing, hiking, picnicking, swimming, and mountain biking. With so much to see and do at Alum Creek State Park, pack a lunch and plan a whole day of outdoor fun!
Driving Directions to Howard Road Boat Launch from Columbus:
Take I-71 N to OH -37 E/US-36E (Exit 131). Go 0.7 Miles and make a right on ‘3Bs and K Rd’. Go 1.5 miles and then go left on Howard Rd. Go 1.1 mile and the entrance to boat launch will be on your left, just before the Howard Rd Bridge goes across the reservoir. If you cross this bridge, you have gone too far.
